#17 Women’s Soccer to Host Fire Before Facing Warriors on the Road

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 10, 2023) - The #17 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team heads into week five of Sun Conference play this week with a conference record of 5-1-2. The Bobcats will host #13 Southeastern University before facing Webber International University on the road. 

In their last matchup on September 20th, the Bobcats traveled to Lakeland, Fla. to face Southeastern. The match ended in a draw with no points on the board, the Bobcats had eight shots during the game and the Fire had 13. Southeastern is currently 6-1-1 in Sun Conference play, losing only to #7 SCAD-Savannah. The Bobcats have not defeated the Fire since 2015, making them 0-9-1 in the last 10 match ups. STU will host the Fire on Wednesday, October 11th at 7 p.m. at AutoNation Field. 

St. Thomas will then face Webber International University for the second time this season, this time on the road in Babson Park, Fla. The Bobcats defeated the Warriors in a shutout in their last meeting, with a final score of 4-0. The Warriors are currently 1-6-1 in Sun Conference play, defeating Warner University 5-1 and tying Ave Maria University 0-0. The Bobcats will head north to face the Warriors on Saturday, October 14th at 7 p.m. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Gabrielle Cimino leads the team in goals this season with four, scoring two goals in the past three matches. Cimino leads the team in shots this season, notching 46 shots. 

  • Megan Velazquez has also scored two goals in the past three matches, scoring against Keiser University and Ave Maria University. Velazquez also is second in shots this season with 25.  

  • Claudia Rodriguez currently leads the team in assists with four, notching two assists at Ave Maria and one assist in the latest matchup against Florida Memorial University. Rodriguez also has two goals this season and is third in shots for the Bobcats with 21. 

UP NEXT 

The Bobcats will head to Hardeeville, SC to face the undefeated #7 SCAD-Savannah for the second time on Wednesday, October 18th at 7 p.m. before hosting Warner University on Saturday, October 21st at noon.
