MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 21, 2023) - The #18 St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team took to the pitch Saturday afternoon to face Warner University for the second time this season. The Bobcats dominated against the Royals, scoring early and recording another shutout in Sun Conference play.
The Bobcats dominated the field from the get-go. In just 2 minutes and 53 seconds, Gabrielle Cimino, a powerhouse forward for the Bobcats, showcased her skills. She dribbled past the Royals' defense and sent a precise shot into the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance to react. Assisting her was Megan Velazquez, who had set up the play beautifully.
The Royals fought back, but the Bobcats' defense held strong, denying them any real scoring opportunities. It wasn't long before Cimino struck again, this time with a solo effort at the 9-minute and 37-second mark, doubling the lead for St. Thomas. This marks Cimino's seventh goal of the season, keeping her position as leading scorer for the Bobcats this season.
Despite their best efforts, the Royals couldn't break through the solid defense of the Bobcats. At the 20-minute and 36-second mark, Cristina Blaya San Pedro found herself in a perfect position thanks to a fantastic pass from Natalie Woodward. She capitalized on the opportunity, extending St. Thomas University's lead to 3-0.
As the first half drew to a close, the Bobcats maintained their dominance, taking a three-goal lead into the break.
The second half was more balanced, the Royals managing to notch a couple of shots on goal, but the Bobcats' defense held strong. Despite their efforts, the score remained 3-0 in favor of St. Thomas University. The Bobcats had secured a 3-0 victory over the Royals. This match brings the Bobcats to an overall record of 11-2-2 and a conference record of 8-2-2.
Up next, the Bobcats will head to Ave Maria, Fla. to face Ave Maria University for the second time this season on Wednesday, October 25th at 7 p.m.
