#18 Women’s Soccer Enters Last Week of Regular Season Play

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 24, 2023) - The #18 St. Thomas University Women's Soccer team heads into the final week of regular season play this week with two Sun Conference matchups. The Bobcats will face Ave Maria University on the road before hosting #17 Keiser University.  

On Wednesday, October 25th, the Bobcats will head to Ave Maria, Fla. to face Ave Maria University. The Gyrenes have an overall record of 4-6-5 this season and are currently 2-6-4 in Sun Conference play. The Bobcats defeated the Gyrenes 3-1 in their last matchup that took place at AutoNation Field on October 4th. Ave Maria scored the first goal of the game, but the Bobcats were quick to respond, Cristina Blaya San Pedro putting them on the board in the 14th minute of the match. Megan Velazquez and Gabrielle Cimino also each notched a goal during the match up. The Bobcats are 14-2-1 in series history against the Gyrenes and they are yet to be defeated on the road.  

The Bobcats will then head back to Miami Gardens, Fla. To celebrate their seniors with a home match up against #17 Keiser University. The Seahawks currently have an overall record of 10-4-2 this season and a conference record of 7-3-2. In their last meeting, the Bobcats defeated the Seahawks on September 30th in a shutout win, 3-0 on the road. Cimino put the Bobcats on the board in the 25th minute of the match, followed by a goal from Bryanna Alzate and a third goal from Velazquez. The Bobcats will host the Seahawks on Saturday, October 28th at 6 p.m. which will be preceded by Senior Day celebrations at 5 p.m. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Gabrielle Cimino has been leading the Bobcats in scoring, shots, and points this season with seven goals, 64 shots, and 16 points. Cimino notched three more goals last week, one in the match up against #5 SCAD-Savannah and two against Warner University. Cimino also recorded a goal in the last match up against Ave Maria as well as the last meeting against Keiser.  

  • Natalie Woodward has been making her presence on the field known, scoring three goals in the last three matches, tying her for second in scoring alongside Bryanna Alzate with three goals each this season. Woodward notched two goals against Webber International University as well as the game-winner against SCAD.  

  • Claudia Rodriguez has remained consistent this season, leading the team in assists with four. Rodriguez has also notched two goals herself as well as 21 shots and eight points.
