MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 25, 2023)- The St. Thomas University Men's Soccer team defeated Ave Maria on senior night. A full slate of seniors started the game for the Bobcats, as they were able to get the 3-0 victory.
The early minutes of the game saw St. Thomas on the offensive, with
Federico Testoni taking a shot at 2:39, which unfortunately went high. Ave Maria tried to counter, but the game was halted by a foul on St. Thomas.
The Bobcats continued to press, with
Osaghae Oghogho taking a shot at 7:52, but it went high. Shortly after,
Amit Fletchmann's shot was blocked at 8:46.
The game saw several fouls and offside calls as the teams battled for control. At 27:40, St. Thomas managed to break through, as
Federico Testoni scored the first goal, assisted by
Osaghae Oghogho.
The match was intense, with both teams making substitutions to change the course of the game. St. Thomas showed its strength in the 63rd minute when
Joaquin Domber scored their second goal, assisted by
Beknur Nurlanbek.
STU sealed the victory with a third goal at 80:04, courtesy of
Guido Cacciabue. The game featured some yellow cards, with
Amit Fletchmann from St. Thomas receiving one at 42:18, and Luis Mendoza from Ave Maria receiving a yellow card at 81:34. There were also offside calls against both teams. In the later stages of the match, there were numerous shots and saves, but the final score remained 3-0 in favor of St. Thomas.
