No. 24 Volleyball Sets Season Bests with 10th Straight Win

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 4, 2023) – Alexandra Bruno had 14 kills with no errors to lead No. 24 St. Thomas University (STU) Volleyball to a 25-14, 25-14, 19-25, 25-16 four set win over Keiser University (19-8, 3-3 SUN) on Wednesday evening from the Fernandez Family Center.
 
The Bobcats (15-2, 6-0 SUN) had four players with double-digit kills and hit .247 as a team while holding Keiser to their lowest attacking percentage in a conference match at .115. STU finished with seven service aces, not being aced once, nine blocks, and out-digging Keiser 68-55.
 
Bruno finished with a match-high 14 kills on .500 hitting, a service ace, five digs, and a block. Sana Dennis, Amanda Allende, and Alexandra MacAskill were right behind with 12 kills each.
 
Bianca Grassi had a season-best 29 digs keep one of the conference best hitters at bay. Keiser's Brooklynn Slater posted her worst outing this season with a -.043 clip, a lot in part to Grassi keeping the rally alive.
 
Freshmen, Payton Bertke, shined in a battle among the two best setters in the Sun Conference. Bertke had 52 assists, the second time in her career with over 50, the first in four sets. Bertke is currently 10th in the NAIA is assists per set with 10.52, while also leading the conference.
 
Dennis was dominate at the net collecting seven blocks for the second most this season and tying a season-high with her 12 kills. The junior is five blocks away from hitting 200 in her career, becoming just the fourth Bobcat to ever do so.
 
Allende collected her sixth double-double with 12-kills and 11 digs, she also added two service aces and two blocks. MacAskill joined the season-high party with her best of 12 kills, the first time hitting doublle0digits this season. The graduate had a .391 clip with a service ace, seven digs and two blocks.
 
St. Thomas is now 15-0 when winning the first set and have won 10 straight matches. During the stretch STU has only dropped three sets.
 
STU will stay at home and close out their first round of conference action hosting Coastal Georgia Saturday, October 7 at 2 p.m. from the FFC Gym.
