Women’s Basketball Heads to Lakeland Tournament

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 17, 2023) - The St. Thomas University Women's Basketball team are on the road this week for three games in their non-conference schedule. After their Tuesday match up the Bobcats will take a trip up north for two match ups in Lakeland, Fla. on Friday and Saturday.

After defeating Florida National University this week, the Bobcats will head to Lakeland, Fla. to face (RV) John Brown (Ark.) and (RV) University of Montana Western. This will be the first meeting between the Bobcats and the Golden Eagles of John Brown University. The Golden Eagles are currently 2-2 this season, after going 1-1 in the McPherson (Kan.) Classic and 1-1 in the Mid-America Christian (Okla.) Classic. The game will take place on Friday, November 17th at 7 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla. at The Furnace of Southeastern University

St. Thomas will next face the University of Montana Western who are currently 3-2 overall in the 2023-24 season. The Bobcats have met the Bulldogs on the road all four times in series history. In their most recent match up in 2017, the Bobcats traveled to Dillon, Mont. where they fell to the Bulldogs, 87-75. STU met Montana Western for the first time in 2009, where they faced off in Lake Wales, Fla. and the Bobcats defeated the Bulldogs 76-61. The Bobcats are 1-3 in series history against the Bulldogs. The two teams will face off on Saturday, November 18th at 7 p.m. at The Furnace. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Camilla Flefil is leading the Bobcats in scoring this season with 42 points, scoring 25 in the first game against New College of Florida. Flefil also leads the team in three-pointers with nine. 

  • Brooke Bogatz and Bria Brown follows closely behind Flefil in scoring, Brown with 40 points and Bogatz with 35. Brown is just behind Flefil in three-pointers with seven while Bogatz is tied with Flefil in assists with 12. 

  • Sophomore Paige McDonald has been proved to be an asset to the team as the season kicks off. McDonald has nine blocks this season and 21 total rebounds.  

Next, the Bobcats will rest up for the holidays before heading back to the Fernandez Family Center to host Florida National University on Tuesday, November 28th.
