Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 15, 2023)- The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team picked up another win, this time against new Sun Conference foe New College of Florida. The Bobcats were down early, but managed to pick up the pace of play in the second half and secure the victory.
The start of the game was a rough one to say the least for STU. The Bobcats went down 10-0 before Jordan Hernandez was able to knock down a three to put a halt to the bleeding. Anthony Harris was able to drive to the glass for an easy lay, but the Banyons kept fighting and started to pull away. Daniel Ogoro's two free throws made it a four-point game just over half way to go in the opening half.
Joshua Thrower received a pass from Anthony Harris, and was able to get it to fall off the glass to make it a one score game. A minute later Anthony Harris found himself wide open for a jumper in the paint, tying the game at 23. The remainder of the first half was back and forth with lead changes every thirty seconds, but it was ultimately New College who took the lead into the locker room.
To start the second half the Bobcats weren't as sluggish as they were to start the game. Anthony Harris got things going quickly, driving the net and making it a one-point ball game. After a quiet first half Milton Matthews drilled one from behind the arch, and the tide was shifting in the Bobcats favor. With 13:16 left in the matchup, Jordan Hernandez worked his way inside for a lay in, giving the Bobcats their largest lead of the night (10 points).
The Banyons didn't back down, getting some traction midway through the second half. Just when they got some traction big man Stipe Sokol checked in for STU, making a difference on both ends of the court. The Bobcat lead never went under 9 points, claiming the victory over next years new sun conference member 83-72.
