MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 4, 2023) - With the 23rd win of the season the St. Thomas Volleyball team (23-2, 14-0 SUN) caps off just the second undefeated season in conference play in program history. The Bobcats defeats Coastal Georgia (8-14, 4-10) in straight sets 25-12, 25-22, 25-22, for the 18th straight win, extending the longest win streak in program history, and 15th sweep of the season.
Amanda Allende's ended her final regular season game in style with 15 kills, swinging .344 and having five assist. Sana Dennis had another double digit kill performance with 11. Dennis also had a block and three digs. The junior leads the conference with 88 blocks and a 1.14 set average.
Payton Bertke had a stellar outing with 25 assists in two sets for a 12.5 per set average. Bertke ends the season as the leading setter with 10.49 per set average in assists, the only player in double digits.
Bianca Grassi and Alexandra MacAskill had the team high of 13 digs each. MacAskill added six kills. Tayla Barnes led the Bobcats in the net with three block solos. Barnes also swung .444 with five kills.Â
The teams 50 kills is the most in a three set victory this season. It was led by a season set high 19 kills in the third set. The Bobcats hit an impressive .385 in the set.Â
STU is now 23-0 when winning the first set this season. They have won 18 straight first sets.Â
With the conclusion of the regular season, St. Thomas will have a first round bye in the Sun Conference Tournament and then host the final four from the Fernandez Family Center Gym November 10-11. The Bobcats will await their opponent following the Webber and Ave Maria quarterfinal.Â
