Men's Soccer Advances to Sun Championship With Semifinal Victory

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 7, 2023)- The St. Thomas University Men's Soccer team faced off against cross town foe Florida Memorial University in the Sun Conference Semifinals. The game was filled with action, featuring numerous fouls, shots, and scoring opportunities for both sides, but the Bobcats would come out with the 2-1 victory.
 
The game began with both teams striving to gain an early advantage. There were several fouls called against both St. Thomas and Florida Memorial as they battled for control of the field. At the 5:02 mark, Tramaine Lawson of Florida Memorial attempted a shot, but it was saved by St. Thomas' goalkeeper, Franco Acerbi. The first goal of the game came at the 9:24 mark when Burak Cuban of Florida Memorial scored, with an assist from Thomas Cole. This marked Cuban's second goal of the season, giving Florida Memorial a 1-0 lead.
 
St. Thomas wasted no time responding, and at 9:36, Angelo Bernandes found the back of the net with an assist from Tomas Persico, leveling the score at 1-1. As the game continued, there were additional fouls, corner kicks, and shots from both teams. St. Thomas maintained a strong offensive presence, with Joaquin Domber taking several shots on goal. Joshua Aranzazu, the goalkeeper for Florida Memorial, made several key saves to keep his team in the game.
