(RV) Women’s Basketball Falls After Fierce Contest in FAU Exhibition Match

BOCA RATON, Fla. (December 5, 2023) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team faced off against Florida Atlantic University on Tuesday evening. The Bobcats fought hard against the NCAA Division I Owls, but ultimately fell to the team 60-76. 

The Bobcats took some time adjusting to the DI stage on Tuesday evening. The first quarter saw the Bobcats down by 12 points, the clock timing out with a score of 23-11 in favor of the Owls. 

As the second quarter commenced, the Bobcats came out hot. STU scored 22 points in quarter two, Marta Franco leading the charge with 14 points in the first half, 10 of which came in quarter two. The Bobcats improved their shooting percentage from 30.8% in quarter one to 47.4% in the second quarter. Bria Brown sank a three to close in the owls even further. As the buzzer sounded, the scoreboard showed the Bobcats down by three, with a score of 36-33.  

The Owls extended their lead in quarter three, leaving the Bobcats trailing by 18. The Bobcats continued to put up a fight, Paige McDonald recording seven points in quarter three, bringing her total for the game to nine. Franco notched a few more points, continuing to lead the team with 18 points in the match up. Brooke Bogatz also had 13 points and 5 assists during the game.  

Ultimately, the Bobcats fell to the Owls, but it was no easy feat. The Bobcats put up a good fight, falling to the Division I team 60-76. 

Up next, the Bobcats will host New College of Florida for their second meeting this season on Saturday, December 9th at 2 p.m.
