Offensive Pressure Too Much for Royals in Women’s Lacrosse First Win

LAKE WALES, Fla. (February 11, 2023) - HERstory continues to be made as the first win in women's lacrosse program history was recorded on Saturday afternoon. The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Lacrosse team traveled up to Lake Wales, Florida to take on Warner University in the battle of the two newcomers. This game did not count towards conference action. 

In absolute dominant fashion, the second game ever landed the Bobcats in the win column for the first time. St. Thomas took down Warner 22-6 with an offense outburst. Warner score the first goal of the game. The Bobcats came back and scored nine unanswered goals.

Noelle Heggblod scored the first, of her record setting five on the afternoon, to tie the game up in the first quarter. Kaitlyn Chmelir was right behind Heggblod scoring the second goal to give the Bobcats the lead that they would hole through the rest of play.

Samantha Diadema was the starting goalkeeper for the Bobcats playin all 60-minutes and picking up the win in the net.

The offense had multiple goals in each quarter putting up seven in each of the first two to take a 14-3 lead at the half. Jorja Schooler kept the pressure coming in the second half scoring in the first 33-seconds. Schooler would tie Heggblod for the record setting of five goals. Schooler would be the lone Bobcat to score in each quarter of play. 

Seven different Bobcats recorded at least one goal, five of which had multiple. Behind Schooler and Heggblod was Kiersten Lang with four goals, and Jenna Lynch and Chlemir scored three a piece.

Heggblod lead all of the offense with seven points, Schooler had six, and Lang had five on the day. E'Mya Miller and Presley Satori were the other two Bobcats to score a goal. St. Thomas out-shot Warner 40 to 10 with two double-digit shot attempt quarters. 

The Bobcats will play their first ever home game on Wednesday, February 15 with the start time of 6 p.m. on AutoNation Field.
