BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2023) – The regular season has come to an end on the road for the St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team (21-7, 12-4 SUN). The Bobcats traveled to Webber International University (11-14, 8-7) to close out conference action and fell 78-70 despite a late comeback effort.
Kasey Gagan scored the first basket of the game. In an early back and forth battle, the Warriors were able to gain an advantage four minutes in and continue to build through the rest of the game. St. Thomas was able to cut it down to within a basket at the end of the first.
Webber went on a 9-0 run in the second to gain a double-digit lead and gain some space between the Bobcats.
Marta Franco hit a layup to end the first half and send STU into the locker room trailing by 13-points.
St. Thomas struggled behind the arc going 0-13 in the contest, this is typically a big part of the Bobcat offense and proved to be the difference maker as a fourth quarter comeback fell just short. The Bobcats shot about even from the field at 42-percent, but the Warriors dominated the boards at a 46-28 advantage. Turnovers would be a big mishap on both teams as they totaled for 39.
Kasey Gagan scored 26-points with seven rebounds. Moye also scored in double figures with 16.
St. Thomas will get a first-round bye in the Sun Conference tournament as the two-seed and will await their opponent in the semifinals that will be played next door at Florida Memorial on Friday.
