Bogatz Career Night Snaps Long Term Losing Streak to the Fire

LAKELAND, Fla. (February 9, 2023) - Everyone can now exhale. The weight has been lifted and Head Women's Basketball Coach, Candace Walker, can officially say that she has defeated each Sun Conference school. St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball (20-6, 11-3 SUN) secured the 20th win of the season in no grander fashion than taking down Southeastern University (12-12, 9-5 SUN) 92-84 on the road at The Furnace.

The 20th win makes it Coach Walker's third career 20-win season. The win also marks the first time since 2015 that the Bobcats have defeated the Fire, and first time since 2013 that they have won on the road.

In a much needed win to continue the race for a quarterfinal bye, Brooke Bogatz stepped up to the plate and cashed in. Bogatz recorded a career night with 33-points and never leaving the court. The junior was walking bucket going 11-23 from the field and knocking down four 3-pointers.

As a team, St. Thomas shot 40-percent from range, knocking down 12 3-point baskets. The Bobcats also won the game at the charity stripe going near perfect at 22-26 for 84.6-percent efficiency.

Kasey Gagan, Mya Moye, and Bria Brown also scored in double-figures as Gagan and Moye went for 15 each and Brown finished with 10. Gagan, Brown and Connieya Bradford were perfect at the line going 4-for-4. Bradford led the team with rebounds at seven while Gagan led with assist in four.

St. Thomas continues to look for a push to clinch a quarterfinal bye, hosting Ave Maria on Saturday, February 11 at the Fernandez Family Center for Senior Day.
