MOBILE, Ala. (May 18, 2023) – St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Tennis has ended a tremendous season led by two four-year seniors who helped rebuild the program into a national contender. The Bobcats fell to the seven-time defending national champions, Georgia Gwinnett College, 4-0, who were the two-seed in the tournament.

The match started with the Bobcats falling in doubles play. St. Thomas fell on courts two and three 1-6 and GGC took the 1-0 match lead.

Through as singles play kicked off the weather was on and off,
Lia Pena and
Jenesie Burgos dropped their courts as the Grizzlies were one court away from clinch before the rain and lightning came into effect.

When play resumed the Bobcats had a tall task ahead needing to win the remaining four courts to complete the upset. Maria
Carme Ibanez Navarro unfortunately fell on court one as the junior was down a set and faced a 2-4 deficit when resuming play.

Annie Carrera was the lone Bobcat to win a set from the Grizzlies, with two going into a tie breaker in set one on court three and six. This ends the season for the 2023 team as they make it the furthest finish in program history under the new format instilled in 2000.
