(RV) Women’s Soccer Faces #12 SCAD-Savannah and #6 Keiser in Sun Conference Week Three

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 26, 2023) - It's a big week for the St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer Team as they enter their third week of Sun Conference play. The Bobcats will host #12 SCAD-Savannah University before heading north to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face #6 Keiser University

The Bobcats and the Bees have kept their competition fierce over the years, with an overall series record of 6-7-2 and a 4-3-1 record at home. In their last meeting in 2022, the Bobcats traveled to Hardeeville, SC and lost to the Bees 0-6. This season, #12 SCAD-Savannah has an eight-game winning streak, remaining undefeated with an overall record of 8-0 and a conference record of 4-0. SCAD defeated #6 Keiser University on Wednesday, September 20th with a final score of 3-1. The Bobcats will host the Bees on Thursday, September 28th at 7 p.m. at AutoNation Field. They will meet again later in the season in Hardeeville, SC on Wednesday, October 18th. 

Following Thursday's match up, the Bobcats will head north to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face the #6 Keiser University Seahawks. In their last match up in 2022, the Bobcats lost 2-0 at home. The Bobcats have not defeated the Seahawks since 2021, when they won 3-1.  

Before SCAD took them down, the Seahawks were also defeated by the #13 Southeastern University Fire on September 16th in a shutout. Keiser's overall record this season stands at 4-3-1 and their conference record at 2-2. The Seahawks will match up against Ave Maria University on the road on Wednesday before hosting the Bobcats on Saturday, September 30th at noon. STU will host Keiser later in the season on Saturday, October 28th at 6 p.m. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Claudia Rodriguez picked up her second goal of the season this past week against Florida Memorial. Rodriguez also recorded six more shots last week, bringing her total shots this season to 14, putting her just behind Miranda Ferradaz and Gabrielle Cimino

  • Isabella Penaranda has been unstoppable this season, not letting a single goal in last week. Penaranda recorded five more saves across the last two matches and has notched a shutout in every game she has played. 

  • The Bobcats' Defense has been dominating on the field, Defender Kiana Better scoring her first goal of the season on Saturday against Florida Memorial. Better joined fellow defenders Bryanna Alzate and Sarolta Oppelland who have picked up goals of their own this season. 

The Bobcats will host Ave Maria University on Wednesday, October 4th at 7 p.m. at AutoNation Field. STU will then head down the road to Dr. Lester Brown Park to face Florida Memorial University on Saturday, October 7th at 11 a.m.
