Box Score DELAND, Fla. (September 2, 2023)- The St Thomas University Football Team took NCAA Division 1 Stetson University down to the wire, losing by one point in overtime. Rontavious Farmer had another huge game for the Bobcats rushing the ball 32 times for 226 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Caleb Walker, and Nick Engler were all over the place. Walker had 10 total tackles, one tfl, and one pbu. Engler on the other end had 4 total tackles, 3 tfls, and one sack.

The Bobcats started off the game kicking off. After STU forced them to a 3 and out, they ran into the kicker on 4th down resulting in Stetson getting the ball back and taking an early lead. Keely Watson started the game under center for the Bobcats, and in the Bobcats first possession the offense would go on a 12 play drive and be unable to score, and settle for an Alejandro Prado field goal from 29 yards out.

The next Stetson drive would be taken all the way down into the STU 20 yard line and come to a 4th and 1 with the Hatters offense still in the field. The Bobcats linebacker Willie Webb Jr. was able to close the gap and stop them short of the line to gain. Both offenses would stall for a while but Stetson extended their lead with another field goal, making it 13-3.

With the Bobcats in need of a touchdown to keep this game close on the second play of their next drive, Rontavious Farmer took it 39 yards down the right sideline to make it a 3 point game. With 5:17 left in the first half the Hatters were able to put 3 more on the board. Ty'Quan Wiggins checked in at qb for STU, but his first drive resulted in the offense going 3 and 0.

The Bobcats got the ball back with just under 2 minutes remaining in the first half and got all the way down into the Hatters half of the field. The field goal team would come on to the field for a 29 yard field goal attempt, but the Stetson defense would go right up the middle to block it and end the half, the score at half being 13-10 Hatters.

Keely Watson and the Bobcats started with the ball in the second half, marching all the way down the field, but Watsons pass got intercepted in the end zone. Stetson took advantage of the interception going on a long drive themselves, kicking another field goal to make it 16-10. This Bobcats offense really came alive in the second half, keeping the Hatters defense on their toes. The next Bobcat drive would go from their own 32 all the way down to the Stetson 23, where they would settle for a field goal from 40 yards out to make it a 3 point game again.

The STU defense started really shutting the Hatters out, their run game disappeared, with the Bobcats only giving up short gains. At the start of the 4th quarter Ty'Quan Wiggins was back in at qb leading the Bobcats down the field into field goal range but Alejandro Prado would miss a hair left from 37 yards out. The first Hatters possession of the 4th quarter would once again result in a 3 and out for the Bobcats defense.

Ty'Quan Wiggins and the offense once again put together an impressive drive, as Wiggins hit David Hayes down the left sideline for a 39 yard passing play. It took Rontavious Farmer two tries to get into the end zone and tie the game. Just when the Bobcats had the momentum the Hatters were able to go down and take the lead once again making it 27-20.

Never backing down however, Rontavious Farmers 3 rushes on the next drive led to a Ty'Quan Wiggins rushing touchdown from 3 yards out to tie the game once again. Nearing the end of the game the last possession for each team would result in a punt, sending us to overtime.

The Bobcats took advantage in their first drive of the overtime as Ty'Quan Wiggins hit Trevor Phillips over the middle for a 20 yard gain. Ty'Quan Wiggins capped it off once again rushing it in from 1 yard out. STU was unable to make the extra point however as the ball sailed over holder Keely Watsons hands. With the Bobcats needing a stop the Hatters were able to get into the end zone and with an extra point win the game 34-33.
