MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 15, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team enters week three of Sun Conference play this week with two match ups at the Fernandez Family Center. The Bobcats will host Sun Conference Tournament Runner-ups Southeastern University before hosting Ave Maria University.
On Wednesday, January 17th, at 5:30 p.m. the Bobcats will host Southeastern University for the first time in the 2023-24 season. In their last meeting in 2023, the Bobcats fell to the Fire 62-70 in the Sun Conference Tournament Semifinals. St. Thomas went 1-1 against the Fire during Sun Conference regular season play, defeating them at home by 18 points and later falling to them in OT 71-73 in Lakeland. The Fire continued onto the Sun Conference Championship where they fell to Florida Memorial University. The Fire are currently 11-5 overall this season with a Sun Conference record of 2-1, falling to Ave Maria University in their conference opener. Their second meeting will take place in Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday, February 14th at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, January 20th at 2 p.m. the Bobcats will face Ave Maria University for the first time this season. In their last meeting in 2023, the Bobcats defeated the Gyrenes 94-71. St. Thomas went 1-1 against Ave Maria in the 2022-23 season. The Gyrenes are currently 11-5 overall for the 2023-24 season and 2-1 in Sun Conference play, defeating both Warner University and Southeastern University and falling to Keiser University. Their second meeting will take place in Ave Maria, Fla. on Saturday, February 17th at 2 p.m.
St. Thomas enters week three of conference play with an overall record of 13-3. The Bobcats are currently the only undefeated team left in the Sun Conference, holding a 3-0 conference record.
PLAYERS TO WATCH

Brooke Bogatz is currently leading the Bobcats this season with 270 points and 73 assists, averaging 16.9 points and 4.6 assists per game. Bogatz had a standout performance in the Bobcats' last match up against Warner, notching 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Marta Franco had two key performances in week two of Sun Conference play with two double-digit games. Franco recorded 19 points against Florida Memorial, going three-for-three in three-pointers, and 18 points against Warner.

Paige McDonald also had two double-digit scoring performances last week against Florida Memorial and Warner, scoring 15 points against the Lions and 18 points against the Royals. McDonald is currently the second-leading scorer for the Bobcats with 172 points and the leader in rebounds with 112.
Up next the Bobcats will head to West Palm Beach, Fla for a match up against Keiser University before hosting Webber International University.
