Bobcats to Host Battle of Miami Gardens before facing Warner on the Road

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 9, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team enters week two of Sun Conference play this week after defeating the College of Coastal Georgia this past Saturday. The Bobcats will host Florida Memorial University for the Battle of Miami Gardens before heading to Lake Wales, Fla. to face off against Warner University

In their last meeting, the Bobcats hosted the Lions for their second match up of the 2023 season. The Bobcats fell to the Lions, 74-92 after defeating them earlier in the season. Florida Memorial went on to win the Sun Conference Championship after defeating Southeastern University in the final game. The Lions will enter the game with a record of 8-5. Florida Memorial fell to Warner University 63-66 in their Sun Conference opening game. The Bobcats will face the Lions for the second time on Wednesday, February 7th at 5:30 p.m. at Florida Memorial Gym. 

Next, the Bobcats will head to Lake Wales, Fla. where they will face Warner University. The Bobcats defeated the Royals in their last meeting of 2023, 75-74. The Royals are currently 6-7 overall this season, with one Sun Conference win under their belt. The Bobcats will host the Royals on Saturday, February 10th at 2 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center. 

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Brooke Bogatz has been leading the team this season with 244 points and 59 assists. Last season, she recorded 17 points against Florida Memorial and 14 points against Warner. In the Bobcats' most recent game against College of Coastal Georgia, Bogatz put up 22 points and seven rebounds. Bogatz has also notched 71 rebounds so far this season. 

  • Leading the Bobcats in blocks and rebounds is Paige McDonald with 27 blocks and 98 rebounds. McDonald has proven to be a powerhouse in her sophomore season both offensively and defensively, notching 139 points, making her the third-leading scorer this season. 

  • Bria Brown has made her presence on the court known this season, recording 142 points, making her the second-leading scorer for the Bobcats behind Bogatz. Brown recorded her most points against New College of Florida, scoring 23. Brown has also recorded 54 rebounds and is second-leading in steals with 25. 

Next week, the Bobcats will host Southeastern University on Wednesday, January 17th before hosting Ave Maria University on Saturday, January 20th.
