Cruz Sees Double In Volleyball's Sweep At Webber

Babson Park, Fla. – Highlighted by a double-double from Carolina Cruz on Saturday afternoon, the 10th-ranked St. Thomas Volleyball recorded their 12th-straight sweep in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-22) victory at Webber International

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Set 1 -Trailing midway through a back-and-forth first set 16-14, the Bobcats pulled ahead behind four-straight points before responding to a Webber tally with a set-ending 7-0 run.
  • Set 2 – The Bobcats withstood an early 4-0 run by the host that gave them a 4-2 lead, countering with one of their own to pull ahead 7-5. The two sides split the ensuing 26 points with neither team orchestrating a run greater than two until four-straight points by STU forced set point at 24-18.
  • Set 3 – St. Thomas used an early 7-0 run to take a 9-3 advantage, holding onto the lead until a late 5-0 Webber rally knotted the score at 18-all. The Warriors took the lead at 20-19 before three-straight points for STU edged them to a 22-20 lead and held onto it for the rest of the frame.

  • STU finished the match with 46 kills on a .218 hitting percentage versus 28 kills on a .062 clip for the Warriors.
  • St. Thomas served three aces while Webber recorded five.
