MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (November 23, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team hosted
Southeastern University on Saturday evening in a closely contested match.
Sarei McGill led the charge, scoring 27 points, but the Bobcats fell short against the Fire, falling 64-76.
The Bobcats and the Fire were neck-and-neck from the start of the match up, down one heading into the second quarter.
Morgan Taylor led in the first quarter with five points while
Sarei McGill trailing closely behind at four. The match remained tight in the second quarter, the Fire outscoring the Bobcats by only four points.
Amber Louis kept the momentum going, entering the game in quarter two and notching six points. The Fire led 35-30 heading into the halftime break.
St. Thomas continued to fight for the lead after the intermission, the Fire keeping a narrow lead in the third and only outscoring the Bobcats by one point. McGill scored 10 points in the third alone and picked up another three rebounds.
Maddie Scharrenberg also had a standout showing, recording six points in quarter three. McGill continued her hot streak in the final quarter, picking up another nine points to bring her total to 27 for the game. Scharrenberg added three points to bring her total to 14 for the game. Despite their best efforts, the Fire managed to outscore the Bobcats in the final quarter, 22-16. The Bobcats ultimately fell to the Fire 76-64, St. Thomas recording their first loss of the season. This loss brings STU's overall record to 4-1 and Sun Conference record to 2-1.
