Volleyball's Historic Season Comes To An End In NAIA Quarterfinals

Sioux City, Iowa. – The first undefeated regular season by a NAIA sponsored sport in STU history, the first program to win four-consecutive Sun Conference Championships in STU history, the first team to advance to the NAIA Quarterfinals in program history. The historic 2024 St. Thomas Volleyball Season came to an end on Saturday in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-17) setback to reigning champion Indiana Wesleyan in the Quarterfinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • Set 1 – Indiana Wesleyan scored the opening point, and seven of the initial 10, to quickly create. 7-3 separation. The Wildcats limited STU to just one run of consecutive points during the set. 

  • Set 2 – The Bobcats overcame an early 2-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead, maintaining the advantage until a 3-0 run pushed Indiana Wesleyan ahead 12-9. 

  • Set 3 – The Wildcats used an early 6-0 run to pull ahead 8-3 and kept the lead for the rest of the match. 

 
NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Sana Dennis led the attack behind 10 kills on a .333 hitting percentage while adding three assisted blocks. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 34 kills on a .125 hitting percentage versus 51 kills on a .342 clip for the Wildcats. 

  • STU served four aces while Indiana Wesleyan had two. 

  • St. Thomas tallied eight assisted blocks, Indiana Wesleyan logged two solo and 14 assisted. 

  • IWU held a 58-55 advantage in digs.
