Warrens' Double-Double Helps Bobcats Get Sixth Straight Win

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (February 10, 2024) – The St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team picked up their sixth straight victory, defeating the Warner Royals 72-58. The Bobcats started off slow, but came out in the second half and really showed why they are one of the best teams in the Sun Conference.

STU started the game out on a small 6-4 run where Daniel Ogoro, Milton Matthews, and Cearius Warren all got going early. The Royals would manage to go back and forth with the Bobcats on the score sheet, but Josh Taylor gave some separation at the fourteen-minute mark with one of his signature jumpers followed by a dunk the very next possession.

STU then would pull out to an eight-point lead, and it looked as though they were going to run away with it early. From twelve minutes until the end of the first half the Bobcats began to separate from the Royals. In that time frame they went on a 24-12, with Taylor dropping eight points, and Ogoro with eight, giving the Bobcats the momentum heading to the room.

To open the second half the Bobcats sat back a little too much, letting the Royals get back into the game and only having a one-point lead about halfway through the second half. The point differential was 16-12 in favor of STU, but Warner hit some crucial shots to stay in the ballgame. Remember this Royals team is the one who took the first team in the Sun Conference to overtime last game.

With twelve minutes remaining in the game the Bobcats pulled away slowly but surely. STU went on a 26-13 run to close this one out. From just under thirteen minutes as a team they went 9-18 from the floor, 4-8 from behind the arch, and played lock down defense.
