WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (February 16, 2024) – The St. Thomas University Baseball team tried to amount a comeback victory against Palm Beach Atlantic, but would end up losing in the eleventh inning to the Sailfish. The Bobcats used six pitchers in the ballgame, and after giving up four in the first, they would combine for five straight three up and three down innings against the NCAA DII team.
1st Inning
- The Sailfish were able to go through their entire lineup in the bottom of the first, and score four to open the ballgame.
7th Inning
- After six innings of scoreless baseball, the Bobcats finally broke through.
- Yardielo Oneil singled to left field, which allowed Rey Hernandez to score.
- Kendry Noriega made it a one-run game with a single to center field, to bring in two STU baserunners.
8th Inning
- With Matt Granato and Chris Schoeller on the base path, Rey Hernandez stepped into the box and knocked a single to give the Bobcats a 5-4 and their first lead of the night.
9th Inning
- With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Sailfish were able to hit a single and score a run to tie it at five, sending the game to extras.
11th Inning
- The Sailfish won the ballgame on a sacrifice bunt, which the throw to first by the STU pitcher went over the first baseman's head.
