Women’s Basketball Heads to Arkansas for NAIA Tournament First Round

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 12, 2024) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team will head to Siloam Springs, Ark. to face the Indiana Institute of Technology in the NAIA Tournament First Round. This is the Bobcats' first appearance in the NAIA Tournament since 2019.  

Indiana Institute of Technology enters the NAIA Tournament after a 22-0 conference run, winning the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Warriors defeated (RV) Siena Heights University (Mich.) in the WHAC Championship game 58-53. Indiana Tech has an overall record of 28-3. The Bobcats last faced the Warriors in 2021, falling to them at the West Palm Invitational, 78-62. This matchup will take place on March 15th at 8 p.m. (CT) at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark.

PLAYERS TO WATCH 

  • Marta Franco was named to the All-Tournament team after her performance in the 2024 Sun Conference Tournament. Franco had a great run in the tournament, leading the team, scoring 21 points against Webber International University and 19 points against Southeastern University.  

  • Paige McDonald had a successful sophomore season, leading the Sun Conference in blocks with 57, and holding the third-leading scorer position for the Bobcats with 301 points. In the Sun Conference Tournament, McDonald stood out in rebounding, picking up seven rebounds against the Fire and nine against the Warriors. 

  • Brooke Bogatz has led the team all season in many categories, finishing the regular season with 119 assists and 445 points. Bogatz had two double-figure performances in the Sun Conference Tournament, notching 12 points against the Warriors and 14 points against the Fire.
