Baseball Sweeps Gyrenes in Friday Double-Header

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 15, 2024) – The St. Thomas University Baseball team defeated the Ave Maria Gyrenes in the Friday double-header, the first by a score of 6-5 and the second 4-0. Rey Hernandez was stellar at the plate for the Bobcats, with a combined three hits, five RBI's, and three runs.
 
 
Game One
 
1st inning
  • Rey Hernandez drilled one to deep right field with Chris Schoeller on the base path to give the Bobcats an early 2-0 lead.
2nd inning 3rd inning
  • Ave Maria was able to take the lead in the third inning after a few singles and a home run. AMU 4-3
5th inning
  • The Gyrenes extended their lead to 5-3, after a single with two on.
6th inning
  • Angelo Piloto made it a one run game after blasting one over the scoreboard in left field. AMU 5-4
7th inning
  • With Rey Hernandez on the base path, Luis Rodriguez hit one deep to left field to give STU the lead and would go on to be the game winner. 6-5 STU
 
 
Game Two
 
3rd inning
  • Henry Fernandez drew a walk to lead off the bottom half of the inning
  • Christopher Schoeller was then hit by a pitch, giving the Bobcats a man on first and second.
  • Kendry Noriega stepped into the box and hit a single down the left field line to score Fernandez. 1-0 STU
  • With Schoeller and Noriega on, Rey Hernandez stayed hot a hit one to dead center for the three-run bomb. This would give the Bobcats the win, and a combined shut out for Angelo Allievi and Chase Chatman. Allievi went seven innings, with six k's, and six hits given up.
