Women's Basketball Falls to Indiana Tech in NAIA First Round

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. (March 15, 2024) - After receiving an at-large berth into the 2024 NAIA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament, the St. Thomas University (STU) Women' Basketball team traveled to Siloam Springs, Ark. to face off against and Indiana Institute of Technology. The Bobcats matched up against the Warriors on Friday evening, but they were unable to pull out the win, falling to the Warriors 39-69.

The first quarter saw a close battle, with St. Thomas showcasing their resilience against Indiana Tech's pressure. Led by Paige McDonald, St. Thomas fought tooth and nail to keep pace with their opponents. McDonald led the scoring effort for the Bobcats, contributing 12 points along with four rebounds and two blocks. However, Indiana Tech managed to stay ahead, ending the quarter with a narrow lead. As the game progressed into the second quarter, Indiana Tech began to assert their dominance. Despite their best efforts, St. Thomas struggled to find their rhythm. Marta Franco and Ra'Nae Tumblin attempted to spark a comeback, but Indiana Tech's defense held firm. Franco finished the game with six points and two assists, while Tumblin added seven points, and four rebounds. The score was 33-25 heading into the halftime break.

The third quarter saw Indiana Tech pulling away even further, but the Bobcats continued to fight. McDonald and Brooke Bogatz both added four points in the second half. Sophie Vandyke added two points to her tally of four for the game, as well as four rebounds, finishing the game with six rebounds in total. Ultimately, the Bobcats were unable to take the lead against the Warriors, falling to them 39-69.

This concludes the STU Women's Basketball team's 2023-2024 season. The Bobcats finish the season with an overall record of 21-9 and a Sun Conference record of 10-4.
