MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 1, 2024) - The #21 St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team will be advancing to the Sun Conference Championship on Saturday evening after defeating Webber International University in the semifinal match of the tournament. The Bobcats will be facing crosstown rivals, Florida Memorial University, after defeating the Warriors 87-51.
After falling to Webber in their last regular season game, the Bobcats came prepared for revenge. St. Thomas doubled the Warriors' score in the first half, outscoring them 48-23. Daniel Ogoro and Anthony Harris both reached double figures in half one, Ogoro with 16 points and Harris with 12. Harris also picked up four assists in the half. Josh Taylor and Cearius Warren had a successful half, each with nine rebounds. The Bobcats shot 51.5% in field goals and 77.8% from the free throw line in the first half.
In the second half, the Bobcats once again held the Warriors to less than 30 points, outscoring them 39-28. Milton Matthews contributed 15 of those points, finishing the game with 21. Taylor added seven more points, finishing the game with a double-double performance of 15 points and 11 rebounds. Warren also added five more rebounds, ending with 14. The Bobcats kept consistency in their shooting, going 50.0% in field goals, 70.0% from behind the arc, and 76.9% from the free throw line. St. Thomas came out on top, defeating Webber 87-51.
Up next, the Bobcats will face Florida Memorial for the third Battle of Miami Gardens this season. The game will take place Saturday, March 2nd at 7 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center.
