Men's Basketball Falls to Lions in Sun Conference Championships

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 2, 2024) - The #21 St. Thomas University (STU) Men's Basketball team competed in the Sun Conference Championship game on Saturday night after defeating Webber International University in the Sun Conference Tournament Semifinals. The Bobcats faced their crosstown rivals, the Florida Memorial University Lions, for the third round of the Battle of Miami Gardens, ultimately falling 65-61. 

The Bobcats had a tough first half, trailing the Lions by nine as the time ran out. Milton Matthews led the charge with nine points against FMU, followed by Anthony Harris and Josh Taylor who put up six points each. Cearius Warren made his mark defensively, notching six defensive rebounds, totaling eight for the half. The Lions led 32-23 heading into the intermission.

St. Thomas attempted to narrow the gap in the second half, outscoring the Lions 38-33. Matthews continued his drive, adding 14 more points to his total of 23 for the game. Harris added 12 more points to his tally, finishing with 18 points in the match up. Warren also added six points in favor of the Bobcats and five more rebounds, closing out the game with eight points and 13 rebounds. Despite the Bobcats' attempts to take the lead, the Lions emerged victorious, defeating the Bobcats 65-61.
