(RV) Women's Soccer Kicks Off Conference Play Against Webber and FMU

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 17, 2024) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer team kicks off week one of Sun Conference play with match ups against Webber International University and Florida Memorial University. The Bobcats look to keep their undefeated streak alive as they enter week one with a record of 2-0-2.

The Bobcats will first face off against Webber International for their first conference match of the season. The Warriors enter the match up with a record of 0-2, falling in their first official Sun Conference match up to Florida Memorial, 0-1. The Warriors also faced Keiser University for their first game of the season and were defeated by the Seahawks 0-5. The Bobcats have an overall series record of 13-5-1 against Webber International, defeating them in the last match up 3-0. STU has defeated the Warriors in 9 out of their 10 most recent match ups. The Bobcats will travel to Babson Park, Fla. on Wednesday, September 18th at 3:30 p.m. to face off against the Warriors.

Later in the week, St. Thomas will return home for the first Battle of Miami Gardens against Florida Memorial University. The Lions currently have a 4-0 record, including two victories over Florida National University and a victory over Webber International. The Bobcats have a 19-1 overall series record against the Lions and have not lost a game since 2010. STU is currently undefeated at home against the Lions with a 10-0 record. The match up will take place on Saturday, September 21st at 7 p.m. at AutoNation Field.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
  • Gabi Cimino has had a great start to the season, leading the Bobcats with seven goals and 15 points in four games. Cimino recently tied the record for most goals in a single game with five goals against Florida National. Cimino also leads the team in shots with 38.
  • Megan Velazquez has also been a powerhouse on the Bobcats' squad this season, leading the team in assists after beating the record for most assists in a single game when she had four assists against Florida National. Velazquez is also second in points with six and second in shots with 13.
  • Isabella Penaranda has played a crucial part in the Bobcats' success so far this season, remaining undefeated in goal with a record of 2-0-2. Penaranda has recorded three shutouts, 13 saves and a save percentage of 0.867.
