Offensive Explosion Powers Volleyball Past Florida College

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Behind one of the best offensive nights in program history on Thursday evening, the 10th-ranked St. Thomas Women's Volleyball team cruised to a .440 a 3-0 (25-28, 25-7, 25-22) victory over Florida College

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • Set 1 -Trailing midway through the first set 13-8, the Bobcats quickly cut the separation down to one at 13-12 before taking the lead at 15-14. STU held the visitors without a run of consecutive points for the duration of the opening set.
  • Set 2 – The Bobcats scored the opening two points of the second set and never trailed during the stanza.
  • Set 3 – Leading for the bulk of the third set, St. Thomas fended off Florida College's comeback effort that got them within one at 23-22 with back-to-back points to end the night.
NOTEWORTHY:
  • Tayla Barnes led the offense behind 11 kills on a .769 clip, adding five assisted blocks.
  • Carolina Cruz tied for the team-lead in kills with 11 on a .409 hitting percentage while adding nine digs.
  • Hope Leavy-Gaskins chipped in 10 kills on a .571 hitting percentage with three assisted blocks.
  • Sana Dennis added 10 kills on a.461 hitting percentage.
  • Back-to-back-to-back Sun Conference Setter of the Week Payton Bertke dished out 39 assists.
  • Bianca Grassi anchored the defense behind 11 digs.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • STU finished the match with 53 kills on a .440 hitting percentage, their highest since 2016, versus 26 kills on a .091 clip for the host.
  • Both sides served two aces.
