MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (September 24, 2024) - The (RV) St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Soccer enters week two of Sun Conference play with two match ups against Ave Maria University and Keiser University. The Bobcats enter week two of conference play with a record of 4-0-2 and a conference record of 2-0.
The Bobcats will first match up against Ave Maria University. The Gyrenes will enter the game with an overall record or 4-1-1 and a conference record of 2-0-1 after defeating (RV) Southeastern in their conference opener 2-0, Warner University 3-1, and tying against New College of Florida 1-1. The Bobcats currently lead the series 14-3-1 against the Gyrenes, with a 6-2 record at home and 8-1-1 on the road. The Bobcats went 1-1 against the Gyrenes in the 2023 season, defeating them in their first match up at AutoNation Field 3-1, then falling to them on the road 0-3. The Bobcats will host the Gyrenes fo the first time in teh 2024 season on Wednesday, September 25th at 5 p.m. at AutoNation Field.
For their second match of the week, St. Thomas will travel to West Palm Beach, Fla. to face off against Keiser University for their first meeting of the season. Keiser enters the match up boasting a 5-0 record and a conference record of 2-0 after defeating New College of Florida and (RV) Southeastern. The Bobcats went 2-0 against the Seahawks last season, notching two shutouts. The Bobcats first defeated the Seahawks 3-0 on the road, and again 1-0 at AutoNation Field. The road match will take place on Saturday, September 28th at 12 p.m.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
- Rebecca Louis has proved to be a strong member of the Bobcats' defense, earning her first Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Louis played all 180 minutes in the Bobcats last two match ups, and notching a shot against the Warriors of Webber International University.
- Megan Velazquez has found continued success on the front lines of the Bobcats' offense, picking up the game-winning goal last week against Florida Memorial. Velazquez also notched an assist against the Lions, and picked up a collective nine shots against the Warriors and the Lions.
- Gabi Cimino has played a huge part in the Bobcats' success this season, leading the team in goals with 9 this season. Cimino picked up a goal and an assist in the last three match ups, contributing nine points to her total of 21 this season.
