Miami Gardens, Fla. – The St. Thomas University Women's Basketball and Cheer/Dance teams assisted the Jason Taylor Foundation on Monday, Sept. 2 during their annual "Cool Gear for the School Year" event.
The event is designed to offer disadvantaged boys and girls from both Miami-Dade and Broward counties a $300 shopping opportunity at Old Navy for school clothes. The program's purpose is to help build self-esteem and eliminate an unnecessary distraction, allowing each child to focus on his or her studies and not their attire while at school.
"It was an honor for us to represent St. Thomas University Athletics in this year's 20th annual Cool Gear for the School Year event," Head Women's Basketball Coach
Candace Walker said. "Our student-athletes had a blast and did an amazing job serving as celebrity guest shoppers for young students from Miami Dade and Broward. From the shopping, to the conversations, to the TikTok dances, the impact of STU Athletics was definitely felt. Huge thank you to the Jason Taylor Foundation for giving us the opportunity to be involved in making a difference in our community."
On the heels of a 21-9 campaign that advanced to the NAIA National Championship, the 2024-25 Women's Basketball season gets underway on Thursday, Oct. 31 with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.
