MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 14, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Women's Basketball team will face off against two Sun Conference teams this week, the first match up being Battle of Miami Gardens against Florida Memorial University on Wednesday, January 15th. The Bobcats will then travel to Ave Maria University to play against the Gyrenes on Saturday, January 18th.
St. Thomas will enter Wednesday's match up with a record of 10-5 and a Sun Conference record of 4-1. Florida Memorial University is currently 13-1 heading into Wednesday's game, with a nine game winning streak. The Bobcats currently lead in series history against the Lions with an overall record of 24-13. St. Thomas leads in the Fernandez Family Center, falling only three times to the Lions. The Bobcats went 2-0 against Florida Memorial in the 2023-24 season. In their last match up, the Bobcats defeated the Lions on the road 61-49. The first Battle of Miami Gardens will take place on Wednesday January 15th at 5:30 p.m. in the Fernandez Family Center.
Later in the week, the Bobcats will head to Ave Maria University to face off against the Gyrenes for the first time this season. The Gyrenes are currently 7-9 overall this season, with a 3-2 Sun Conference record, most recently notching a win against Warner University. The Bobcats lead the series with an overall record of 24-12 and are 7-3 in the last 10 match ups. In their last meeting, the Gyrenes defeated the Bobcats in a closely contest match with a final score of 66-62. St. Thomas went 1-1 against Ave Maria, defeating the Gyrenes at home but falling on the road.

- Jasmine Worthy has proved to be a powerhouse both offensively and defensively this season, scoring 84 points and averaging 12.0 points per game. Worthy has also picked up 54 rebunds in just seven appearances, and has notched double-double performances for the past four games.

- Jaliyah Weekes has been a consistent member of the Bobcats' squad this season, with 107 points so far this season, fourth on the team.
