MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA (JANUARY 22, 2025) - The St. Thomas University men's basketball team defeated the New College of Florida Mighty Banyons by a final score of 85-84.
The contest was tight all throughout the game, with both teams trading baskets. The Bobcats had a productive performance, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
Both teams shot the ball well, with New College shooting 50% from the field and the Bobcats shooting 43.8%.
The player of the game for the Bobcats was Esteban Lluberes, who finished with 21 points and a clutch 3 pointer with 27.3 seconds left in the second half making it 83-84.
New College capitalized and delivered a clutch basket with a Giovanni Tuscanini layup to put them up by 1 point with 4 seconds left.
The Bobcats, without a timeout, then brought the ball up the floor and found Kyle Feldman on a bounce pass as he made his way through the lane on a layup off the glass.
The Bobcats were then up 1 point, (85-84), and left New College without any timeouts as they ran into a desperation heave as the clock hit double zeros.
Head Coach Zach Moss has plenty to be proud off as his guys played hard down the stretch and executed the right plays out of the timeouts down the stretch.
The Bobcats will celebrate this win tonight before a quick turnaround as they host #15 Keiser University on Saturday afternoon.
Tip off is set for 4PM in the Fernandez Family Center.
