BABSON PARK, FLORIDA (JANUARY 29, 2025) - The St. Thomas University Bobcats men's basketball team fell short in their matchup against the Webber International University Warriotrs on Tuesday night, suffering a tough 84-76 defeat in Babson Park.
The Bobcats fought hard but were unable to overcome the offensive firepower of the Warriors led by a dominant performance from Orlando Thomas. Thomas posted a game-high 29 points on 9-of-17 shooting while converting 10-of-12 free throws, proving to be the difference-maker for Webber.
St. Thomas was paced by standout performances from Daniel Ogoro and Esteban Lluberes. Ogoro led the Bobcats with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-13 shooting, including two three-pointers and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. Lluberes followed closely with 19 points, knocking down four three-pointers and going 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.
The Bobcats stayed competitive throughout the contest, trailing by only four points at halftime. However, Webber International capitalized on second-chance opportunities and strong defensive play, forcing 13 turnovers while recording 10 steals. The Warriors also out-rebounded St. Thomas 32-29, giving them key extra possessions that contributed to their victory.
Despite the loss, St. Thomas saw solid contributions from Dalon Dean, who added 13 points, and Cearius Warren, who recorded 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Sean Shore also played a vital role, contributing 10 points, five rebounds, and a team-high six assists.
For Webber International, Jordan Golden provided strong support with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Khalyl Simmons chipped in 14 points and three assists.
The Bobcats shot a respectable 46.0% from the field and 81.5% from the free-throw line, but their struggles from beyond the arc (8-of-24, 33.3%) hindered their ability to mount a comeback. Meanwhile, the Warriors shot a slightly better 48.3% from the floor and 42.1% from deep, allowing them to maintain control in the second half.
St. Thomas hosts College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday, February 1st as they aim to get back in the win column.
Tip off is slated for 4PM at the Fernandez Family Center.
