Women's Volleyball Conquers The Conquistadors In 3-1 Victory

Hialeah, Fla. – Led by double-double efforts from Alexandra Bruno and Payton Bertke on Tuesday evening, the 12t ranked St. Thomas Women's Volleyball Team defeated host Florida National 3-1 (25-11, 19-25, 25-13, 25-11) in a non-conference contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • After trading the opening 10 points of the contest, the Bobcats scored six straight and kept the lead over five for the rest of the frame. 

  • Florida National broke a 10-10 stalemate in the second set behind a 6-0 run, holding STU without a run of consecutive points till a 3-0 rally while facing set point made it 24-19. 

  • The Bobcats used an early 8-0 run to take control of the third set with a 16-7 lead and kept the separation above seven for the rest of the frame. 

  • St. Thomas held the host to a -.100 hitting percentage during the fourth set to conclude the night. 

NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Raya Mlyakova led the attack behind 14 kills, one solo block and one assisted block. 

  • Bruno boasted 14 kills on a .448 clip with 11 digs, three service aces, one solo block and one assisted block.  

  • Reigning Sun Conference Setter of the Week Bertke dished out 42 assists alongside 10 digs for a double-double. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • The Bobcats ended the match with 50 kills on a .269 hitting percentage, FNU tallied 32 on a 047 clip. 

  • STU served seven aces while the host logged four. 

  • St. Thomas recorded six solo blocks and six assisted blocks versus thee solo and two assisted for Florida National. 

  • The Bobcats held a 68-50 advantage in digs.
