#19 Bobcats Reach 10 Wins in a Row After FNU Victories

WESTON, Fla. (February 26, 2025) - The #19 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against Florida National University on Wednesday afternoon, defeating them in both games of the doubleheader to notch their 10th victory in a row. The Bobcats first defeated the conquistadors in a shutout, 8-0, then went on to defeat them once more, 11-4.

Game One: St. Thomas 8, Florida National 0:
  • The Bobcats kicked off the game with a two-run homer from Isabella Andujar in the first inning, Andujar bringing home Kaitlynn Martinez to put the Bobcats up 2-0. Gabriella Gilbert then brought in a run of her own, grounding out to second but bringing home Anna Toon.
  • Martinez kept it up in the second with sacrifice fly to center, scoring Natalie Kopicova.
  • In the fifth, Kopicova singled, advancing Bianca Palacios and scoring Gilbert to put the Bobcats up 5-0.
  • The sixth inning saw three more runs for St. Thomas from Maggie Kirk, Martinez, and Andujar. This inning secured the victory for the Bobcats, 8-0.
  • Anna Toon notched the win for this game, making her record 7-0 overall this season. Toon recorded seven strikeouts, only allowing three runs.
Game Two: St. Thomas 11, Florida National 4:
  • In game two, the Bobcats were once again starting their scoring drive with not one, but three home runs. Martinez homered to right field, scoring Emma Encarnacion and Alahnis Berrios to put the Bobcats up 3-0. Toon and Gilbert followed suit, each hitting home runs to put St. Thomas up 5-0 in inning three. 
  • Florida National responded with three runs in the fourth, but the Bobcats were not discouraged. They went on to pick up four more runs in the fifth, with Gilbert, Bre'Asia Thomas, Encarnacion and Berrios each scoring to put the STU up 9-3.
  • St. Thomas added two more runs in the top of the seventh, one from Emma Edwards and one from Kirk.
  • FNU added another run in the bottom of the final inning, but it was not enough to take the lead. The Bobcats ultimately won 11-4.
  • Victoria Navarro earned the win for this game, notching one strikeout, making her record 2-0.
  • Alyssa Luna picked up the save for the game.
     
Up next, the Bobcats will travel to Melbourne, Fla. to participate in the Space Coast Spring Games. They will first face off against Johnson University and Bethel University (Tenn.) on Friday, February 28th at 2:30 p.m. and 4:40 p.m.
