Making An Introduction; Men's Volleyball Prevails 3-2 Against Webber In First AAC Match

Babson Park, Fla. - Making their Appalachian Athletic Conference debut on Friday evening, the St. Thomas Men's Volleyball team overcame an opening-set loss to host Webber en route to a 3-2 (18-25, 27-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-10) victory over last season's conference runner up. 
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Set 1 – Webber scored the opening three points of the contest and never trailed during the opening set, holding the Bobcats to two 3-0 runs in the frame. 

  • Set 2 – In a back-and-forth second set that saw neither side lead by more than two, the Bobcats fended off a pair of Webber set points before scoring three-straight to even the overall score. 

  • Set 3 – Trailing late in the set 22-20 after a Warriors 4-0 rally, St. Thomas scored four-straight to force set point at 24-22. Webber ended the run with a point before the Bobcats closed the frame. 

  • Set 4 – Ater trading the opening 36 points of the fourth set, Webber scored three-straight to pull ahead 22-19. The Warriors held STU withouot a run of consecutive points for the rest of the frame to take the match to a fifth set. 

  • Set 5 – Ater exchanging points to start the deciding game, the Bobcats scored four-straight and held onto the lead for the rest of the stanza. 

 
NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Gabriel Negrao paced the offense behind 28 kills on a .500 hitting percentage, adding two assisted blocks. 

  • Kaelen Ingram added 20 kills, two service aces and eight digs. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STU finished the match with 66 kills on a .257 hitting percentage versus 63kills on a .292 clip for Webber. 

  • St. Thomas served four aces versus five for the host.  

  • The Bobcats logged eight assisted blocks with one solo, Webber recorded six solo and 10 assisted. 

  • STU held a 54-42 advantage in digs.
