MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 26, 2025) - The #18 St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team picked up two shutout victories on Wednesday evening against
Florida Memorial University, including a no-hitter from
Victoria Navarro. These two wins officially marked the Bobcats' sweep over the Lions, defeating them in all three meetings to bring their Sun Conference record to 11-1.
Game One: St. Thomas 11, Florida Memorial 0
- The bats were hot in game one, with a Mya Achenbach kicking it off for the Bobcats with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the first inning. Anna Toon followed up with a double to right center, scoring Isabella Andujar to put the Bobcats up 2-0.
- Alahnis Berrios kept it going in the bottom of the second for the Bobcats with an inside-the-park homer, putting the Bobcats up three.
- The third inning saw five more runs from the Bobcats, with Andujar, Gabriella Gilbert, Bre'Asia Thomas,Toon, and Navarro each notching a run off singles from the Bobcats' squad. Toon, Thomas, Navarro, and Kaitlynn Martinez each picked up a single in the inning.
- St. Thomas couldn't let the an inning pass them by without recording a run, adding at a run in each set of at-bats. The fourth inning saw runs from Sierra Anderson and Toon, who scored on an error and a throw during Natalie Kopicova's at-bat, as well as a run from Kopicova on a single from Navarro.
- The Bobcats finished the game in five innings, defeating the Lions 11-0.
- Toon went 3-3 in the game, picking up two runs and two RBIs.
- Navarro notched the win for this meeting, bringing her record to 7-0, recording a no-hitter and two strikeouts.
Game Two: St. Thomas 1, Florida Memorial 0
- The Bobcats took the lead once again in the first inning over the Lions with a solo home run from Martinez over the center field fence.
- St. Thomas saw four hits in meeting three over FMU, one from Martinez, Berrios, Kopicova and Andujar.
- Florida Memorial was unable to make a comeback, and the Bobcats defeated them 1-0.
- Anna Toon notched the victory for this game, bringing her record to 18-2. Toon recorded eight strikeouts in the game and her seventh shutout of the season.
Up next, the Bobcats will continue their home stint with a Sun Conference series against New College of Florida, starting on Friday, March 28th at 6 p.m. at the Colonel, followed by a double header on Saturday, March 29th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
