Men's Volleyball Reverse Sweeps Campbelsville, Blanks Viterbo In STU Invite

Miami Gardens, Fla. - Down 0-2 overall in their opening match on Friday, the St. Thomas University Men's Volleyball Team rallied to pull off a reverse sweep of Campbellsville before completing the day with a 3-0 triumph over Viterbo.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1): 

  • Set 1 – Trailing midway through the opening set 15-10, the Bobcats rallied to tie the score at 17-all before taking the lead late at 20-19. Neither side held a lead greater than one down the stretch until three-straight points by Campbellsville ended the stanza. 

  • Set 2 – The Tigers used a 5-0 run midway through the second set to pull ahead 16-12 and kept the separation above three for the duration of the stanza. 

  • Set 3 – After trading the initial 36 points of a back-and-forth third set, the Bobcats pulled ahead behind back-to-back points before closing the set with the final four points. 

  • Set 4 – The Bobcats took control of the fourth set behind an early 6-0 run to make it 7-2, creating a double-digit lead at 16-6. 

  • Set 5 – STU scored the opening three points of the deciding set and never trailed to complete the reverse sweep. 

 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1): 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 1): 

  • STU finished the match with 62 kills on a .371 hitting percentage versus 51kills on a .205 clip for the Tigers. 

  • St. Thomas served six aces versus two for the visitors.  

  • The Bobcats logged four solo block and 10 assisted blocks, Campbellsville recorded three solo and 16 assisted. 

  • STU held a 41-30 advantage in digs. 

 
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2): 

  • Set 1 – STU overcame an early 6-0 Viterbo run that gave them an 8-6 advantage, scoring three-straight to pull ahead 9-8 while holding the visitors without a run of consecutive points until back-to-back points made it 24-18 STU. 

  • Set 2 – The Bobcats scored the opening three points of the second set and never trailed in the stanza, using a 5-0 run midway through the stanza to create a 16-10 cushion. 

  • Set 3 – After splitting the opening 32 points of the third set, the Bobcats scored four-straight to pull ahead 20-16 while holding Viterbo without a run of consecutive points for the rest of the contest. 

 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2): 

  • Negrao led the offense behind 15 kills on a .684 hitting percentage. 

  • Ingrama added 12 kills in two sets with six digs. 

  • Collares tallied 28 assists in two sets of work. 

  • Vianna tallied nine digs. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE (GAME 2): 

  • STU finished the match with 49 kills on a .481 hitting percentage versus 28 on a .126 clip for the V-Hawks. 

  • St. Thomas served three aces versus four for the visitors.  

  • The Bobcats logged two solo blocks and seven assisted blocks, Viterbo recorded four solo and four assisted. 

  • STU held a 35-16 advantage in digs.
