Men's Volleyball Concludes STU Invite With Sweep Of Governors State

Miami Gardens, Fla. - Wrapping up play in their home invitational on Saturday afternoon, the St. Thomas Men's Volleyball team swept Governors State (25-18, 25-12, 25-20). 

 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Set 1 – The Bobcats flipped an early one-point advantage in the opening set off back-to-back points and kept the lead for the rest of the stanza, creating a double-digit separation at 19-9. 

  • Set 2 – After trading points to start the second set STU scored seven-straight to quickly create an 8-1 advantage while holding the Jaguars without a run of consecutive points until a pair of tallies made it 18-6. 

  • Set 3 – The visitors took an early 4-2 lead in the third set behind a 4-0 run, only for an equal run by STU propelling them to a 7-5 advantage. The Bobcats kept the lead for the rest of the contest. 

 
NOTEWORTHY: 

  • Kaelen Ingram led the offense behind 14 kills on a .591 hitting percentage, adding three assisted blocks. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: 

  • STU finished the match with 44 kills on a .458 hitting percentage versus 23 kills on a .079 clip for the Jaguars. 

  • Both sides served four aces.  

  • The Bobcats logged 15 assisted blocks, Governors State recorded one solo and eight assisted. 

  • STU held a 30-13 advantage in digs. 

UP NEXT: 

The Bobcats return to Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) play on Wednesday, Mar. 12 with a 7 p.m. contest against Warner University with first serve set for 7 p.m.
