LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (May 13, 2025) - The St. Thomas University (STU) Softball team faced off against
Georgia Gwinnett College for game two of the NAIA Opening Round on Tuesday afternoon. It was a close match against the Grizzlies and the Bobcats fought hard until the last out, but Georgia Gwinnett held the one-run lead over St. Thomas to win it.
Game Highlights: St. Thomas 2, Georgia Gwinnett 3
- It was quick a quick start for the Bobcats and the Grizzlies with a few up and down innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the third that Georgia Gwinnett got on the board, scoring three runs in the inning off two singles and a fielder's choice.
- St. Thomas kept fighting hard. Anna Toon picked up a double in the top of the fourth, but the Bobcats weren't able to make it home just yet.
- It was in the top of the fifth that STU got on the board. First Alahnis Berrios singled to right field, scoring Victoria Navarro narrow the gap, 3-1. Berrios advanced to second on the throw, putting herself in scoring position.
- Mya Achenbach then reached first on a throwing error by the short stop, allowing Berrios to score, further narrowing the gap, 3-2.
- Despite their strong efforts, the Bobcats were unable to take the lead, falling to the Grizzlies 3-2.
Next, the Bobcats will once again face off against Evangel University on Wednesday, May 14th at noon.
