Miami Gardens, Fla. – With a state-of-the-art bowling center being built on the St. Thomas University campus, STU announced the addition of Men's Bowling to complement the current Women's Bowling Team with John Michalenko named the Director of Bowling Operations. Mickalenko has been on campus since February to help open the new bowling center and as the Director of Bowling Operations will be
recruiting new members for the men's program, growing the women's team, and hiring a coaching staff.
"We are pleased that John has joined STU in this new endeavor," Vice President of Athletics Bill Rychel said. "He brings a wealth of knowledge about collegiate bowling that will serve our student-athletes well."
Michalenko joins the Bobcats after serving the same role at Robert Morris University, PA., where over his tenure there, he brought the men's program into the national spotlight as a nationally ranked USBC-Collegiate men's team. Boasting a men's and women's team of 40 student-athletes, RMU's men have advanced to the Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) Sectionals seven straight years with the women's team qualifying for the 2025 postseason for the first time. "I'm excited to be a part of the growth STU is experiencing and I'm thrilled to establish a competitive men's and women's bowling team. Having a new bowling center on campus with the most sophisticated equipment offers us an opportunity to prepare our teams to compete at the highest collegiate level," said Michalenko.
Michalenko competed collegiate at Western New England University and began his coaching career at Carnegie Mellon University. With over 30 years' experience in collegiate bowling, his goal is to build a nationally ranked program at STU. For more information about the program, please click this link.
