Miami Gardens, Fla. – St. Thomas University's Vice President of Athletics
Bill Rychel announced the hiring of Brandon Slater as the newest head coach for the Bobcats' Men's and Women's Golf programs. Slater joins STU with experience playing professional golf and coaching at the collegiate level.
"I am excited for Brandon to join us and take over our golf program," Rychel said. "He brings great energy that will continue to evolve and grow our teams."
Slater heads to Miami Gardens after spending two years as the Head Women's Golf Coach at his Alma Mater Baldwin Wallace University. Highlighted by setting the school's record for the lowest 18-round score this past season, Slater guided Alana Smith to a pair of All-Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) honors with her season stroke average during the 2024-25 campaign ranking 10th in their record book. He developed three All-Conference honorees, five Academic All-OAC recipients and two Academic All-District winners.
"I'm very excited to be the next Head Golf Coach at St. Thomas University," Slater said. I already feel very welcome and am ready to get to work. I feel like all the pieces to build a National Championship program are here and I can't wait to get started."
Alongside his coaching responsibilities, Slater is a PGA Associate Professional and has played over 180 courses in eight different countries. He's finished in the top-10 at four Training Division events with one top finish while also competing in Norther Ohio PGA events.
Slater graduated from Baldwin Wallace in 2014 and is a ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, Strength and Conditioning and Nutritionist.
