Bobcats Route Eagles as Rychel Logs 50th Career Win

MIAMI GARDENS, FL -( SEPTEMBER 6, 2025) -  The St. Thomas University Bobcats delivered a statement victory on Saturday afternoon, dismantling the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles by a commanding score of 55-7, in what became a historic day for head coach Bill Rychel, who notched his 50th career win as a collegiate head coach.

The Bobcats wasted no time asserting dominance. On their opening possession, Isaiah Lopez  sprinted 29 yards to the end zone, setting the tone for the night. Zach Alvarez added a 26-yard field goal later in the first quarter, giving St. Thomas a 10–0 lead.

The second quarter turned into an avalanche. Quarterback Keely Watson found David Hayes  on a 21-yard strike before connecting with Jaden Fox Harrington on a 38-yard touchdown just minutes later. The Bobcats' special teams joined the highlight reel when Jaelyn Thomas electrified the crowd with a 66-yard punt return touchdown. With under a minute left in the half, Dreylan Martin broke free for a 20-yard scoring run, sending St. Thomas into halftime up 38-0

The onslaught continued after the break. Alvarez drilled a 30-yard field goal before Watson tossed his third touchdown of the game, this time to Cole Hayes from 11 yards out. Camden Hartzell capped off the Bobcats' scoring spree with a one-yard plunge late in the third quarter, stretching the margin to 55–0.

Fort Lauderdale avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter when DeRohn King  connected with Cole Cross for a six-yard touchdown, but by then, the outcome was long decided.

Behind a balanced attack, explosive plays on offense, and a smothering defense, the Bobcats left no doubt in this match up. For Coach Rychel, the victory was more than just another blowout—it marked a career milestone, as he secured his 50th win leading St. Thomas football, further cementing his place in program history.
