Late Rally Falls Short For Women's Basketball Against Keiser

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Facing a double-digit deficit late in the third quarter on Saturday afternoon, the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team rallied against visiting Keiser University to knot the score with 7:52 minutes remaining only for the Seahawks to keep the lead in a 75-70 setback.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
·         Keiser held the Bobcats without a field goal during the opening 10 minutes, with STU converting on five free throws to head into the second quarter trailing 16-5.
·         After allowing a triple and layup by the visitors to start the second quarter, the Bobcats prevented their opposition from scoring consecutive baskets for the rest of the frame to cut the deficit to six before a KU triple extended it to nine which they maintained for a 34-25 halftime score.
·         The Seahawks recreated their double-digit advantage off the ensuing layup of the third quarter, pushing their lead back up to 13 at 42-29 before an 11-3 rally by STU made it 45-40. Keiser countered with four-straight points before a Bobcats layup in the final seconds made it 49-42.
·         St. Thomas kicked off the final quarter with a layup and triple to make it a one-possession game, knotting the score at 52-all before a KU triple gave them the lead which they held for the rest of the game.
 
NOTEWORTHY:
·         Sarei McGill scored a team-best 16 points on 6-10 shooting, adding six rebounds and four steals.
·         Madison Lippy added 13 points.
·         Jaliyah Weekes chipped in 11 points.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
·         STU went 21-54 from the field, 4-19 from beyond the arc and 24-36 from the free throw line. Keiser went 26-50, 5-14 from three and 18-24 from the free throw line.
·         Keiser held a 34-30 advantage in rebounds.
·         The Bobcats forced 19 turnovers, resulting in 29 points. The visitors scored 12 points off 14 turnovers.
·         STU recorded 13 steals and four blocks versus three steals and three blocks for Keiser.
 
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats host Webber International University on Wednesday, Jan. 28 in a 5:30 pm conference clash.
