Women's Basketball Upended By Webber In Overtime

Miami Gardens, Fla. – Despite holding a three-point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation of Wednesday evening's Sun Conference contest, visiting Webber International connected on a triple to send the contest to overtime before taking the lead in the final seconds of the extra time of a 74-72 setback for the St. Thomas University Women's Basketball Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
·         Trailing late in the first quarter 12-6, the Bobcats rallied to make it a one-possession game at 12-10 with each side adding two points to their score over the final 2:50 of the frame to make it 14-12.
·         STU opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run to flip the two-point advantage, only for a 9-0 response by Webber creating a 23-16 score with 5:-02 left in the half. The Bobcats used a pair of baskets sandwiching a Warriors' free throw to cut the deficit down to four at 24-20, with neither side connecting on consecutive baskets for the rest of the half to make it 29-25.
·         St. Thomas cut the deficit down to one at 33-32 midway through the third quarter, only for six-straight points for Webber extending their lead to 39-32 with 4:07 remaining in the frame. The two sides traded the ensuing 12 points to maintain the seven-point game before a pair of free throws in the final seconds created a 45-40 score.
·         The Bobcats used a 8-2 start to the second half to pull ahead 48-47, pushing their lead up to six at 60-54 with 2:30 left in regulation, only for Webber to score eight of the final 10 points with three coming in the final seconds sending the game to overtime at 62-62.
· Trailing 68-65 with 2:35 left to play, STU converted on a triple and layup back-to-back to take a two-point lead before back-to-back Webber baskets gave them the lead. 
 
NOTEWORTHY:
·         Sarei McGill finished one rebound shy of a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds.
·         Joey Delaney added 12 points, seven rebounds and a team-best four assists.
·         Katrina Litte chipped in 12 points.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
·         STU went 23-64 from the field, 9-26 from beyond the arc and 17-25 from the free throw line. Webber went 31-62, 4-10 from three and 8-13 from the free throw line.
·         St. Thomas held a 46-33 advantage in rebounds.
·         The Bobcats forced 19 turnovers, resulting in 17 points. The visitors scored 19 points off 23 turnovers.
·         STU recorded 13 steals and four blocks versus 15 steals and six blocks for Webber.
UP NEXT:
The Bobcats travel to the College of Coastal on Saturday, Jan. 31 for a 2:00 pm conference contest.
