Men's Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match At Governors State

University Park, Ill. – Wrapping up their Illinois trip with a pair of matches on Saturday morning, the third-ranked St. Thomas University Men's Volleyball prevailed against host Governors State 3-2 before besting Cornerstone 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
  • Governors State broke a 20-all standstill behind three-straight points and kept the lead for the rest of the frame.
  • After splitting the initial 18 points of the second set the Bobcats scored back-to-back points and kept the lead for the rest of the frame.
  • Trailing 17-19 midway through the third set, the Bobcats used a 4-0 run to flip the two-point advantage and held the host without a run off consecutive points until surrendering back-to-back points with a 24-22 score.
  • Governors State pulled away midway through the fourth set off a 5-0 run that pushed them ahead 14-9 and held STU without a run of consecutive points until back-to-back tallies made it 23-13.
  • Facing match point at 14-12, the Bobcats scored three-straight to force match point before winning the match at 18-16.
 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1):
  • Kaelen Ingram fueled the offense behind 24 kills on a .429 hitting percentage, adding eight digs and three assisted blocks.
  • Ibrahim Perez added nine kills on a .533 clip with five solo blocks and four assisted blocks.
  • Rafael Obrusnik dished out 48 assists.
  • Victor Monaco added 12 digs.

  • Cornerstone flipped a 17-14 deficit to a 20-17 lead and held the Bobcats without a run of consecutive points for the rest of the stanza.
  • STU never trailed in the third set to move one away from the doubleheader sweep.
  • The Bobcats opened the fourth frame with back-to-back points and held the opposition without a run of consecutive points until a pair of points made it 17-11.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2):
  • Cameron Gray boasted 17 kills on a .433 clip with six digs.
  • Ingram added 13 kills on a .370 percentage.
  • Obrusnik tallied 32 assists and seven digs.
  • Monoco recorded 10 digs.
