Miami Gardens, Fla. - St. Thomas University is pleased to announce upgrades to the Baseball and Softball facilities on campus. Both facilities will now feature a turf field, as well as additional improvements to other parts of their facilities. This project will be worked on by CSR Construction, Shaw Sports Turf, 1st Turf, and Musco Sports Lighting. That project is expected to be completed for both sports' 2027 seasons.
Both Paul Demie Mainieri Field and Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field playing surfaces will be upgraded by Game On Turf by Shaw Sports Turf. This state-of-the-art turf limits the number of seams and cuts made in the turf, which improves playing consistency and player safety.
In addition to the playing surface improvements, Baseball's Paul Demie Mainieri Field will feature a new lighting system from Musco Sports Lighting. These new lights will feature their Show-Light Entertainment System, which will enable special effects to be integrated into the LED lighting. Also, Softball's Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field will feature new dugouts for the 2027 season. CSR Athletic Construction and 1st Turf will be working on the project as well.
Senior Vice President of Athletics, Bill Rychel, commented on the project, "We are excited to partner with CSR Construction, Shaw Sports Turf, 1st Turf and Musco Sports Lighting for the projects at our baseball and softball facilities. These facility upgrades allow us to enhance the experience for our student athletes in practice and competition. Installing turf allows us to be more efficient with our time and resources. I can't wait for our teams to break in the new facilities for the 2027 seasons."
St. Thomas Softball Head Coach JC Gutierrez said, "We are looking forward to the facility upgrades that are coming to our softball program. It is great seeing value continuously getting added to St. Thomas. We are grateful to St. Thomas University for helping enhance the experience for our softball program. I am very excited to see the continued impact our program will have on our girls on the upgraded Col. Jacquelin J. Kelly Field."
Jorge Perez, Head Baseball Coach, also commented, "I am extremely thankful and grateful for STU's investment and commitment to providing our baseball program with one of the most outstanding facilities in the country. This state-of-the-art baseball facility will set a new standard for college baseball and position STU as a national leader in player development. Most importantly, it will provide our student-athletes with the resources, environment, and opportunities they need to develop faster, reach their full potential, and become the competitive players and outstanding young men our university can be proud of. I am incredibly proud to be part of STU and appreciate the university's vision and commitment to the future of our baseball program."
