MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The St. Thomas University (Fla.) Bobcats women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes on Saturday night.
After a scoreless first half, Ave Maria broke through in the 51st minute when Claire Wrobleski found the back of the net at 50:35, giving the Gyrenes a 1-0 advantage. Julia Hyland was credited with the assist on the opening goal.
The Bobcats responded less than 14 minutes later. At 64:28, Mariana Sanchez found the back of the net to level the match at 1-1. Natalie Woodward provided the assist on the equalizing goal.
Neither team was able to find a game-winning goal during the remainder of regulation, as the Bobcats and Gyrenes settled for a 1-1 draw.
St. Thomas finished the match with a 14-11 advantage in shots, including a 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Bobcats also held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-5.
Goalkeeper play was key throughout the contest, with St. Thomas recording five saves while Ave Maria finished with six saves.
The Bobcats will look to build on the result as they host Webber International on Wednesday, October 7 at 3:30pm.
